古代中国の刑務所では、囚人用の赤い制服が使用され、その目的は二つありました。囚人の罪と恥を象徴するだけでなく、拷問による出血を隠すことも意図されていました。

女性囚人は、しばしば残虐な拷問にさらされ、打撲や鞭打ち、指やつま先を折られるなどの苛烈な拷問を受けました。このような拷問によって出血した血液は、彼女たちの赤い服に隠され、外部の人々が彼女たちの負傷の深刻さを把握するのが困難になりました。

しかし、この隠蔽の試みにもかかわらず、彼女たちが受けた感情的、身体的な傷跡は隠せませんでした。彼女たちは数年間の孤独と拘束を強いられ、数え切れないほどの苦しみと残虐行為に耐えました。

Female prisoners were often subjected to brutal forms of torture, ranging from beating and whipping to having their fingers and toes crushed. The blood that resulted from such tortures was often hidden by the red color of their clothes, making it difficult for outsiders to see the extent of their injuries.

But despite this attempt at concealment, the women of these prisons could not hide the emotional and physical scars that they bore. They endured untold suffering and cruelty, with many spending years in isolation and confinement.
