I remember I wanted to draw this after a friend used a Thanos-skin on Fortnite but that was around a month ago and wanted to talk about “bah, it’s bad that people can look like any character they want without caring about the source material” or something like that but that’s not really relevant anymore as he uses something else and I use a goat skin from a game I haven’t played. And he has seen Infinity War and Endgame so I’m really much worse here but I didn’t plan to complain about him. But just, I love Thanos so much and he can be so chaotic and fun one moment and sad and depressing the other and all that characterization just disappears when you can unlock his skin and run around with a rifle or lightsaber and dance Gangnam Style and do the floss.
But I remember as a kid, wishing comics would be cool someday and here I am, comics slowly dying and everyone running around like Deadpool and Batman and Indiana Jones and doing stupid dances and using guns and unless it’s Thomas Wayne, Batman with guns will always be cursed, if it’s not in a collab or movie or anything else.
I’m not complaining about Fortnite, I actually like it, didn’t expect that. But I’m not a big fan of their collabs. Do you want to look like Batman, play Batman! Indiana Jones, he has his own games as well. Same as Deadpool, Witcher, Spidey, Star Wars e.t.c.
I really like the way Overwatch is doing it with One Punch Man where you don’t play as this character but the characters in the game are cosplaying as them. That way, it doesn’t feel as “false” for me to pick those skins without watching the anime because it’s not those characters, it’s the characters from this game I already played for a long time, just in another costume.
So if One Punch Man appears in the Fortnite shop, I will not buy them just because they “look cool” but if Star Wars returns, I will absolutely get the Stormtrooper. Because just like them, I do not know how to hit my targets.
And I get that this might sound like some kind of gatekeeping which I know is wrong and hates when others do that and you’re allowed to do whatever you want. I just want to respect these creations and franchises and it’s a little annoying when I have spent so much time reading about these and then my other friend who never read a comic book just got the Phoenix-emote and being so clear in how he speaks, has no clue what it is but “it looked cool.” And if you don’t know what it is, I just can’t get my head around why you would care about buying it.
