Mermay2024 Day 14- Ammonite
Day 14: Ammonite
Ammonite octomaids are a group of marine coiled-shelled mollusk merfolk that lived in the ancient oceans from the Devonian period about 400 million years ago until the end of the Cretaceous period about 66 million years ago. These merfolk had coiled shells with intricate patterns and are often used as index fossils, helping geologists date the rock layers in which they are found. Ammonite octomaids are carnivorous and have tentacles they use to catch prey. They were an incredibly diverse group, with a wide range of sizes and shapes, and their fossils can be found all over the world.
