Itachi in Wonderland muffin
🍰 Happy Birthday sanban taishi!!! 🍰
I’ve always wanted to create sweets/food artwork where there would be an anime chibi somewhere. I’ve seen many artworks like that, so I wanted to create my own version. Because my kouhai likes Itachi and muffins connect us, it was kind of obvious I would draw chibi Itachi with a muffin!
Once the idea stuck to me, I had to draw it. Oh boy, I was not at all prepared for the fact just how hard the sketching of the artwork would be!
First of all, drawing Itachi sitting was hard, because while the artwork might seem big, in reality, the original sketch isn’t that big. So, it was very hard to work on little details. Not to mention, I had a hard time figuring out how he would sit and how his cloak would go, but I think in the end I succeeded in that.
The muffin was rather easy to draw until I had to draw a muffin liner. Especially the side where it goes (because Itachi sitting on top of the liner) was very hard. I couldn’t figure out at all how the liner would go down, without looking awkward. There was also that, I was doing double perspective with the whole artwork. Neither Itachi nor the muffin is portrayed from one flat side but from a perspective. So, because there are two things like that, it makes the whole artwork from a double perspective. That was the reason why I struggled with the liner as I wasn’t at all sure how it would go down…luckily I got help from a very dear person and the sketch turned out well!
When I was digitally inking the lineart that same person who had helped me earlier questioned if I was doing the same artwork again until I showed I had scanned the traditional sketch and digitally inked it. To be honest, I was a bit embarrassed to admit the fact that I’m bad when comes to digital sketching, hence, I sketch first traditionally and then scan it on my laptop, before I ink and color it. This person then pointed out I was like some old-fashioned painter as such people would often sketch their artworks on paper, before starting to paint it on a canvas. This person did point out that those sketches are as valuable as the finished product. It really made me happy and more confident in the way I do things. ^^
I also asked that same person about the muffin’s colors as I wasn’t at all sure if my vision of brighter colors would look good. They pointed out the brighter colors would bring out better the person sitting on the muffin liner (they didn’t know Itachi’s name), which turned out to be true. They also stated the muffin should be over the top, like the ones in Alice in Wonderland, because the character was small like Alice who had shrunk. That’s why the muffin is over the top and extremely colorful!
