Ais Wallenstein (Training)
𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠
The sun hung low on the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the grassy hill where Ais and I sparred. The clang of wooden swords echoed in the open air as I lunged at her, pouring every ounce of strength into my swings.
Ais, as always, moved with precision. Her expression was calm and focused, her golden eyes locked onto mine. She sidestepped effortlessly, her wooden blade coming down lightly against my shoulder.
“You’re still too slow,” she said, her tone cool but not unkind.
I gritted my teeth, adjusting my grip. “I’m trying! You make it look so easy, Ais-san…”
“You’re hesitating again,” she replied, raising her sword. “Don’t hold back.”
The session continued, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t land a single blow. Each of her strikes found their mark with ease, and my stamina dwindled with every failed attempt.
Finally, my legs gave out, and I collapsed onto the grass, panting heavily. The wooden sword slipped from my hand, rolling away as I stared up at the now fiery-red sky.
“I guess… I’m still not good enough,” I muttered, more to myself than her.
Ais walked over, her footsteps quiet against the soft grass. She stood above me, her sword at her side, her usual neutral expression tinged with a hint of concern. “You’ve improved,” she said after a pause. “Your form is better… but you need more endurance.”
I let out a weak laugh. “Endurance, huh? Well, I’m out of that for today.”
She knelt beside me, placing her sword down. “If you give up now, you won’t grow stronger,” she said bluntly, though her voice softened slightly. “Resting is part of training too.”
I looked up at her, surprised by the small gesture of reassurance. “Thanks, Ais-san,” I said, managing a faint smile.
Her gaze shifted, and a faint pinkness touched her cheeks. She hesitated for a moment, her fingers lightly tracing patterns on the grass. Then, with a small, almost imperceptible gulp, she leaned forward slightly, her golden hair catching the last rays of the sun.
“I-If you… if you want,” she began, her voice quieter now, “I could help you… train your… umm… a-another sword.”
I blinked, caught off guard by her words. “Huh?”
Her cheeks flushed deeper, and she turned her face away slightly, avoiding my eyes. “I-I mean… if you want to… practice more endurance… or something,” she stammered, clearly struggling to keep her usual composure.
The weight of her words hung in the air, her meaning unmistakable despite her awkward phrasing. My heart raced, and for a moment, I forgot my exhaustion as I stared at her, unsure of what to say.
