Lunar Combat, Complete Lunacy
Reisen (and friends) doing reenactment #9 - Armed US astronauts from Project Horizon (1959)
Project Horizon was a 1959 study conducted by the US Army to determine the feasibility of constructing a military base on the moon.
There are three volumes of this report, the first two are really easy to just google search for them (since all of these have been declassified for decades) but for some reason, only Small Arms Archive has the third one and a bit hard to find if you don't know how.
It's kinda funny tho since the first two only have studies and numbers and all of the boring stuffs (beside the space suit and transportation, vehicles), and both of them have the cover that i drew in the first pic. While the third one has a normal standard looking document cover with just words and nothing flashy. The third volume is also the one that has the most juicy stuffs (for military nerds).
Astronauts would had be armed with Handheld Direction Mine, which is basically Claymore on the stick and the stick itself is 5-6 foot; there is also a pistol and a grenade launcher for them but we don't know exactly which types. Normal Claymore would also be used for base defense and i kid you not that it could be triggered and firing via radio wave from the spacesuit antenna. And this was still in the 50s so nuke had to be involved and the Davy Crockett and another in-development system named Dumbo II would had be used for base defense too.
So yeh, 10 years before human set foot on the moon with Apollo 11, we already tried to find way to fight war and create man-made craters on the moon lol.
And since there isn't any official depiction about the color of the suit and some of the stuffs related to the project, i decided to break away from normal full color to experimented a different color style.
And yes, the title is stole....i mean borrow from Tank Encyclopedia's video on the same subject.
