Gætíus' World: Þárúlsan warrior
Gætíus' World is my low fantasy world which combines Old World iron age societies with American pre-Columbian cultures.
The þárúlsans inhabit the western Gnákan Savanna in southwestern Túlmikkía, the southern continent of Gætíus' World, and are mostly inspired by the Maasai and the Sioux. Since the region is more arid than the eastern part and ill-suited for agriculture, they subsist mostly on raising horses and eland antelopes along with hunting large herbivores in the region, including buffaloes and deinothere. Like the vevúni to the east, they mostly worship a creator god associated with the sky, commonly known as Ing.
Þárúlsan warriors often raid vevúni tribes to steal their eland antelopes, though they don't see this as theft as such, as they believe that all the world's domesticated eland antelopes originally belonged to the þárúlsans as a gift from Ing. In battle, they prefer using spears with unusually large tips along with throwing clubs, and sometimes protect themselves as well as the horses with a kind of armour made from hides and painted beads (as depicted on the rider here), as well as small shields.
