Dark Bloom

Something that never really occurred to me until just recently: for a show that would go on to use every excuse possible to give the characters new outfits so they can sell new toys, they really didn't do a lot with the design when Bloom turned evil in the second season. I'm not normally one to tell professional cartoon creators with more accomplishments and accolades than I'll ever have how to do their jobs, but was making her hair messier and darkening her clothes and making her wings pointier really the best they could do? Bat wings were right there. Personally I'd have had there be a version of Succubi in the Winx Club universe that are basically fallen angels, the result of good fairies going bad, they turn into a Succubus. And yes, they could totally have done that on a kids show. There was an American cartoon for Darkstalkers, and although they had to change Morrigan's design to make her less suggestive they were still allowed to call her a Succubus, and there's a Yugioh card called Succubus Knight that also has localized artwork but still uses the word Succubus, Succubus is not a bad word as long as they leave out what Succubi are usually known for in mythology. And then you might argue that the demonic appearance would still offend parents, but let's be real, look at how the characters in this show dress, this drawing barely shows any more skin than the same character does in the show, the kind of people that would be offended by a chick with bat wings and horns were probably already offended by this show from the beginning.

And that wouldn't even be the first time they fumbled an opportunity to really play with the wings because the only reason I'm not doing my own take on the mermaid transformations from one of the later seasons is because those designs are mostly good except for the fact that they still have their fairy wings, which is kinda dumb cuz what use do butterfly-style wings even have underwater? Especially when plenty of fish have fins that look like wings. Why didn't their wings just turn into fins?
