Above the clouds
"It's been a while since I last saw a view like this," said the captain. "A long...40 years."
Linda looked up, already anticipating yet another of his dry jokes to spill from his mouth. Except, the captain's eyes grew weary.
"We were all fools back then," he continued. "I, the coward who abandoned my duties. Polly would always make it a point to remind me of that. Then Gen... She'd always find a reason to smile whenever I scowled..."
She knew better than to speak. When an adult reminisces, their words could either turn then to tears or worse-
"-Tinderbox," He gestured to her.
The girl immediately dug the silver box out from her oversized pocket and handed it to him.
"Good lass," He patted her head, then brandished the old smoking pipe while stuffing tobacco into its end. "Ought to reward you for convincing Madam Leathon. Never in my 67th year would I see the day a ship could take flight to the sky."
"...How did you fly?" Linda finally asked. "You said you flew before."
"Oh, just ask your friendly Bird Tribe friend who tamed a colossal bird and hope they won't drop you mid air."
"Huh?"
Was once again experimenting on a new method of light and backgrounds. The colours came out too grey for my liking, but I was trying to emulate an early grey sunrise so... I don't know 😅
