Michael and Mary Muskrat 1930
After my mom Died 10 years ago it was hard to do art. My skill dropped dramatically, so then I stopped altogether. 8 Years after she Passed I started to pick up the pencil again and my skills where very rusty, but I continued, then my younger brother died 2 years ago. I almost stopped again, but thanks to watching Soso no Frieren, I got motivated to continue drawing. A vague idea I had for the last 36 years, since I was a child in the 1980's finally solidified around the same time, and so while the idea was almost as old as I am, my first new TWO new characters in over 15 years where made. Michael and Mary Muskrat. 1930's Cartoon characters from Tanner Toons Studios.
Twin siblings, sent to the orphanage by an accidental delivery from the stork, Michael protects and often saves his younger (by 5 min) twin sister Mary while navigating the great depression. Not completely alone, in his efforts, he's supported by the kindly Olivia Owl, the local Libarian, and Fletcher and Felicity Fowl the friendly couple across the street, and a growing cast of characters over the course of the 1930's while dealing with the likes of Robber Baron Willie Walrus, the Gold-Digging Ginger Snaps, and the dastardly Billy Buzzard.
Here we see some of the "Concept sketches" of Michael and Mary first by William H. Tanner, and the refined designs by Co-Creator (mostly uncredited) Heinrik "Hank" Michael Engel, and lastly my original Aug 2023 Sketch of Mary Muskrat.
She's one cute little Devil of a Muskrat.
