Tully monster ( Tullimonstrum gregarium ) is an extinct vertebrate related to lampreys found in Illinois (United States). Her soft body and lived in shallow tropical coastal waters of muddy estuaries during the Carboniferous period, about 300 million years ago . The term "monster " refers to the extravagant appearance of the creature and the strange body plan , and not its size, since fossil specimens are mostly less than 20 cm in length.
