Sette the Stage
A third venture into the Aces art series sees two challengers jumping the gun from the selection menu and wanting to face the other right away. An opportunity where they'll be able to determine who is truly worthy of wearing the Super Crown. Well, at least one of them is, the other is still trying to get over their habit of being looked at. But they can push on through! So a kind of late entry into the whole -sette craze, would have been late in any fashion as I had this roughed out at least a week after it started, but then I went on a weeklong trip to visit a friend and relative, and spent the time after relearning some color approaches. So this is a month after that business, but I figured it's close to Halloween and that it would still be a fun effort to play around with it for then.
This idea began as trying to think of something I hadn't seen done in a Bowsette image, shredding the dress so she could be able to be more maneverable in something frantic, and from there, I implemented the Aces character selection style I used in two other pieces prior to this. But I also wanted to put in something a bit different from them looking at the viewer, so an approach that the two were seeing each other from a distance was the one I chose and really liked since it wouldn't feel as repetitious. And as a personal touch, I liked esper tail Booette a bit more, feels like it keeps more of that character trait intact.
More pushing on environmental lighting affecting the skin and attire, and more refining on hair lighting as I started to prefer a bunched set of diamonds with a minor light band underneath it, as that felt a bit more organized rather than sporadic. Some extra polishing on a few areas, but really pushing to have hair be more potent in color and reflecting near the body, which is most prominent on Booette. Probably something I'll only be able to play with more on longer-haired characters, but I won't immediately limit myself like that.
So a piece overdue from travels and remembering a few approaches after those travels, but if I was going to have this out, it was going to be at its most optimal and I'm very satisfied with how it came out. Some of the Bowsette tail seems like it could have been brushed up a bit more, but I have more to learn about yellows/oranges and making it look appealing. But that's a good venture and I'm all set to get back on track!
