The ASARS-2 is the Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar System has 15 cooling louvers on the extended nose to cool itself.
Air is guided from the rectangular inlet on the top of the nose, and after cooling the ASARS-2, it is exhausted from the 15 radiating louvers on the top of the rectangular inlet.
Raytheon has received a $320m undefined contract from the US Air Force (USAF) to develop a version of the advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASARS-2B) for the U-2 Dragon Lady reconnaissance aircraft.
ASARS-2B contains an active electronically scanned array antenna and is designed to double the surveillance range of the U-2 aircraft.
The advanced radar also maintains the mapping and imagery resolution of the existing ASARS-2A system.
Raytheon secure sensor solutions vice-president Eric Ditmars said: “ASARS-2B allows the Dragon Lady to see further than ever before. That kind of range is crucial for commanders to achieve decision superiority, and it ensures that the U-2 remains a preferred option for manned airborne surveillance operations.”
The TU-222R and TU-222S allow increased resistance due to an increase in the volume of the aircraft to secure the visibility of the rear seats in the stadium seating, and house the electronic reconnaissance equipment located immediately after the pilot seat. All of the space in the compartment "Q Bay" was sacrificed to carry a second crew member.
A specially designed unit was built to secretly and safely avoid the VIPs that should be protected from these TU-222R and TU-222S production blocks by flying at high altitudes and speeds.
This special tactical aircraft is the TU-222R (Mu) or TU-222S (Mu) format with the initial name "Mu" of the guardian's first name given to the end of the format name by the Strategic Air Force's own naming. The symbol has been assigned.
These TU-222s (222R-Mu, 222S-Mu) required fully experienced pilots.
