The Echo in the Eclipse
The Abyssals might only be the single piece of the puzzle; as it came to the solution of ending the war, Wanges knew that she must look into a bigger picture.
And here she was, watching the sunset with Kashima.
“So, Kashima, humor me with one thing: If there’s any way to put the end to the chain of violence for good, what would you say about that?”
“Sounds like the ultimate goal of we Kanmusus. But if that happened, I think it could also mean the end of our services.” Kashima replied with a calm and sweet voice, just like she always did.
“You’re right, and maybe we can all look for the new life goals after then.” When Wanges responded, she sounded bitter.
Although Wanges wasn’t a big talker around and she didn’t share a lot of information with her subordinates, Kashima could still tell whenever she was trying to ask for help.
And thanks to Kashima’s sharp intuition, Wanges could be sure that she was the right one to rely on.
But before she told her, Wanges asked Kashima to remain calm to whatever she was about to hear.
“Well, it might sound… uh no, I mean it sounds crazy to you, but, what if I know there’s a great war about to happen in the next 500 years?”
Wanges could tell that Kashima didn’t look very surprised by her facial expression, which gave her the confidence to continue.
She then told Kashima she had a plan of sending Kanmusus to the future to win the war by some devices she had secretly built in the past years.
“Devices… I am listening.”
Wanges looked at the ocean and took a moment to think about how to put it with the right words.
“I will need you to guide them by the time you arrive there, teach them the things you learn, and help them whenever they need.”
“I am pretty sure this is all you have been working on during the days around here; I won't ask anything else, but I think this means Operation Thousand Suns failed to achieve what it should be.”
Operation Thousand Suns, the high table of the Navy claimed the final attack would remove the threat of Abyssal from the face of the Earth once and for good; however, Wanges only saw another orchestrated act for profiting.
The Chinjufu was corrupted from the inside, and Wanges had already known that there was nothing she could do from the inside for now.
“I have already told others. And I might have to say sorry, but please take this as my final order.”
Even being the commanding officer, Wanges didn’t like to use the power to force someone from doing something they were unwilling to do.
“There's no need for apologies, and I am glad you choose to rely on us. By the way, don’t you think we would need a name for this operation?”
"I think you are right… well then, how about Eclipse? The one to devour the sun.”
Kashima smiled and said this would be the first uprising against the entire world they know:
“To be honest, I am looking forward to the world you're about to introduce to us.”
