The General
General Vân Du (Vietnamese: Tướng quân Vân Du, Chinese: 云遊將軍) is a highly-respected elder demon who lives in Mount Cloud (Vietnamese: Núi Mây, Chinese: 云山), a mythical (fictional) mountain in Thanh Hóa province, Việt Nam, during the early days of the Later Lý dynasty. She is one of the most ancient demons alive, have been living at least 10000 years and still fine as heck. She's so powerful, arguably the strongest Vietnamese demon in terms of both personal and territorial alike. Though she normally avoids political matters, the General actually holds absolute authority over the 3 southern lands of Thanh Hóa, Diễn Châu and Nghệ An (modern day Thanh Hóa and Nghệ An provinces). Not even the imperial court dares to defy her.
Usually acting like a mother/teacher to the main characters, General Vân Du is nonetheless a ruthless and brutal demon, as she can - and will - order a massacre out of her enemies, even when they have surrendered. She has the habit of eating those she killed, coming by the fact that she is originally a king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah), such serpents that are notorious for their cannibalistic habit. In the old novel thus far, she has eaten "on-screen" a demonic python and a Chinese banded krait (Bungarus fasciatus) for invading and wreaking havoc in her territory.
In serpent form, General Vân Du can change her size, from 4 to 4000 meters, and maybe even larger, during the Age of Gods when she served under the Demon King to defend Lĩnh Nam (ancient Việt Nam) against the invasion of the Northern Demons. In human form, the general appears to be a tall lady in her early 20s, with long, black, velvet hair, cobra eyes and white skin. She wears traditional Vietnamese clothes, consisting of a dark brown cross-collared robe with an yếm as the underwear for the upper half of the body. She wears trousers, as long dresses are "too unhandy for a cataphract". When out for battles, she wears a set of bronze lamellar armors over a leather one, made by buffalo skins, coming with a badass long cape for the supreme commander. The two long feathers on her helmet were taken from a phoenix's tail, and nobody knows how in the bloody hell did she get them.
The General's main weapon is an old-school ji, the model that was used during the Warring States of China. It differs greatly from the 11th century jis, and even different from its own kind: It was at first a swordstaff, but then she decided to add a dagger axe and a hook. Crazy? Yes. Practical? YES.
