Luftschutz

Starting from the summer of 1942, air raid warden training became a standard component in the curriculum of the Hitler Youth as the Allies launches large-scale strategic bombardments on German cities, Local schools were closed and classes were held, therefore many members of the League of German Girls became air raid wardens and auxiliary firefighters to aid the adults.
This is the beginning of the end for the League of German Girls.
As the war wore on, the League of German Girls starts to cease existing as Local BDM groups become impossible to organize, many of its members lose their homes and family members, friends, and loved ones, even their life. Surviving members gathered what was left of their belonging and helped their families to relocate, where they were still likely to get bombed out again.
Erika served in civil air defense (Luftschutz) as a first-aid volunteer, helping those who were wounded and sick from the air raids. She is still wearing her BDM uniform and was issued a civilian gas mask to protect herself against the toxic gas generated by the burning ruins.
