Gætíus' World: Orrólans
Gætíus' World is my low fantasy world which combines Old World iron age societies with American pre-Columbian cultures.
Orrs is an arid region in northwestern Túlmikkía, the southern continent of Gætíus' World, home of the orrólans who are inspired by Pre-Islamic Arabia and the Ancestral Puebloans.
The first drawing shows a woman from Dind, one of the cities found along the coast in Aam, the rocky coastal region to the north. These cities are quite wealthy through trade with each other and powerful countries to the east and west, and each specializes in selling certain resources. For example, Dind is famous for myrrh and tobacco, while Dlúm and Óaa produce salt and palm wine.
The second drawing shows an orrólan hunter from Hjaam to the south, where most people are nomads who hunt antelopes, hares and goats and trade the meat and skins for pottery or shells. They have a strong belief in fate, and unlike those in Aam don't build temples or altars to the gods.
