カミアイLOG #16
This comic made me study Japanese mythology, I'll give them that(wow)
some drawings I drew during/after I drew the family AU comic! ->illust/127268462
Really though, Amenouzume's husband's powers are very cool, I keep saying this, but he has the power to "lead people into the right direction" "protect the way" and "bring people into goodness" That's such a great power! I was intrigued to learn about that. I kept digging! I looked up articles, tourist guides, research papers...because I wanted to understand what was going on in this piece.(I believe I do now)
The moment I learned that he's the "god of light" and has those powers, there wasn't any other way to interpret Kamiki for me, you see; why would they even have that shrine where he and Amenouzume's been married appear in the manga, why have Aqua say he can mess up futures~~~ I kept researching and they seem like such a happy, devoted couple. They love each other a lot and are almost always worshiped together and share their shrine.
The myth revolving around them was adorable. I enjoyed it very much. It's similar to Beauty and the Beast, Amenouzme found a liking for Sarutahiko who everyone else was scared of, and he's like the most virtuous god, too. Coming to think of it, doesn't Kamiki keep handing out roses to people? Amenouzume seems so precious, and her husband seems to be head over heels for her, he got charmed and immediately wanted to marry her and they live together right away. That's kind of what happened in this comic as well.
If the characters are inspired by those gods, what did this story even do to them? It makes my head hurt thinking about it. It'd have been better if they explained this myth but they don't. There was no wonder Ai liked Hikaru that much, they were meant to be; but this work just leads people to believe him seem like a crazy maniac, of course, he's crazy now but was he always that way? Does the work ever explain what, and how he's done the things he does? What did he even do?? We never see any of it onscreen, it's unfair and unfriendly to the readers, I can't just decide someone's bad because people say so, I need to see what he's done!! They never show us any of it!! Never explain it, either! It was so frustrating.
This work made me very stressed, I'm glad it's over because it felt incredibly tense every week and I felt terrible because I felt things shouldn't be this way...it was painful!
When I get into a series, there is a period where I can think of something every single day. It certainly happened for this comic too, it was fun, but kind of sad I felt so nervous all the way.
I hope the next work I get into doesn't make me like this. it was tough. It wasn't all bad but this piece made me wrap my head so much. I wish I could only say good things about the works I read, but it was too much sometimes.
A story inspired by mythology's cool, I want to make something like too but geez. This was cruel.
