Gætíus' World: Húlpakran woman
Gætíus' World is my low fantasy world which combines Old World iron age societies with American pre-Columbian cultures.
The húlpakrans are mainly inspired by ancient Ionia and the Huastekcs. They are descendants of pakrans colonists who settled on the eastern coast of Emlas, the western continent of Gætíus' World, and were later integrated into the empire of Dalra. During this and the wars between Dalra and the pakrans that followed, many pakrans sought to liberate their colonies, which eventually lead to the city-states creating a league and amass a huge army under the leadership of Pakalos.
Much of his fleet was lost or scattered along the coast after a terrible storm, and even after Pakalos managed to unite the rest of his army, the húlpakrans turned out to be quite content with their new overlords. Enraged, Pakalos turned his army against Dalra itself and won many victories against them, until in a final battle where the sight of a double rainbow inspired the dalrans to fight with such fervor that Pakalos and his army perished.
Today, húlpakrans are renowned in Dalra for their philosophers, scientists and artists, while pakrans see them as cowardly, blasphemous and addicted to luxury. Though not as warlike as the pakrans, húlpakran pirates and mercenaries are widely feared for their ferocity in battle, and for the habit of fighting naked and filing their teeth to make them look like fangs.
