Iia Madsen’s paintings are inspired by the timeless beauty of nature. Her wave paintings capture the world’s most powerful and gentle forces converging in a harmonious dance. The canvas becomes a portal to a realm of perpetual motion, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the captivating rhythm of the sea.
The ocean has always held a profound fascination for Iia. She’s drawn to its ever-changing character, from the tranquil lapping of waves on a serene day to tumultuous storms. It is a place of mystery, enchantment, and raw energy, and she aims to convey this through her brushwork.
Originally from Sevastopol, Ukraine, Iia currently lives and works in Skagen, Denmark, a northern town by the sea. Iia’s journey as a painter began at an early age having always had a passion for self-expression through art. At 17 years old, she moved to Kyiv to study Architecture at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture. At the Academy, she studied classical composition, drawing and painting, honing her precise painting technique and artistic voice.
Throughout her career, Iia has participated in many group art exhibitions and fairs. She’s also sold work through art galleries in Denmark. Recently, Iia had a solo exhibition “The Sea” at the Skagen Odde Natur Center, Denmark (Utzon Center). In October, she attended the Pouch Cove Foundation Residency, in Newfoundland, Canada
