neon dinosaur

šŸ§”šŸ»name: Julius
🚹sex: M
šŸŒ†location: Los Angeles
🌈artist type: generally traditional
šŸ‘šŸ»favorite colors: neon-yellowish-green! Neon/hot pink and orange. Heavily saturated colors and neon fluorescent colors. Black or dark purples and blues against these colors make me happiest
šŸ‘ŽšŸ»least favorite colors: earthy colors, browns, tans, etc. they have their place and beauty in certain aesthetics, but seeing plain furniture, walls or especially clothes these colors are a sure turn off. I especially hate olive green, dusty pinks and dark mustard yellows. Browns are only nice when it comes to foods and animal fur.
šŸŽØmediums frequently used- artist paper, black paper, markers, gel pens (opaque, fluorescent, glitter, metallic), fluorescent markers and colored pencils, colored pens
āœ’ļømediums least used- glitter, glue, paint (acrylic), canvas, Microsoft paint only digital art
šŸ’»mediums I want to work with in the future- watercolors, oil paint, spray paint, neon body paint, digital art on Mac (once it’s fixed)

About my art style:

My art style has evolved a lot over the years. I started drawing when I was very young in 2006. This is around the time I started using the internet for things other than Neopets and PokĆ©mon news. I got into an online community that is a lot like the dance dance revolution/ Stepmania franchise called ā€œflash flash revolutionā€. I still go on there sometimes! Anyway back in the day it used to have a lot more users and activity but back then DDR franchise in general was more mainstream. I also would play Gaia and visit other random sites that had to do with anime etc and they would usually have forums. Day and night I would find countless images of not only normal anime but fan art as well. I grew up sheltered so it took me a while to learn what fan art actually was. Some of it was very shocking to such a young virgin brain. I will never forget how confused I was when I stumbled across an entire forum dedicated to Harry Potter fan art, but not just normal HP fan art, it was specifically pairings of Harry and Draco! Thinking back to the memory now makes me laugh. Just imagine a 12/13 year old who grew up in a dogmatic religious household not knowing half a cent what fanfic or fan art is let alone shipping and pairing stumbling across that forum. I didn’t know if I was supposed to be disgusted or turned on, pretty sure I was both. After that experience I wanted to know more about fan art and anime (not just yaoi). My older sister and her friends at the time also drew quite a bit. They were really into the furries, and my sisters friend who got her into drawing actually turned out to be a professional artist. I wanted to be like them and already had the inspiration from the internet, so I started drawing. I never kept any of my very early art and glad I never did, because like anyone else it was BAD. I started by making some cheap 13 year old OCs, I don’t remember all of them but my first fursona was a lion. I designed my permanent fursona Solarflare a few years later, and the only thing that changed about him was the gender (might I add that I am trans, I didn’t grow up as a male. I changed Solarflare’s gender to male in 2012 and started physically transitioning in 2019). I practiced and practiced over the years, but unlike artists like my sisters friend I havent had much success with art. Body proportions are difficult for everyone but a little more so for me. I’m also not good at animal proportions...okay I’m not good at proportions at all. I’m not that good at making people, scenery, comics...I’m not that good of an artist. However I have developed a style that is unique on its own. After a strong psychedelic mushroom trip and watching some of my own art on my walls come to life, I realized that I don’t make art for other people, I don’t make art for a fandom, and I don’t make art to imitate the perfection of a human or animal form. I make art to make you feel something, and enjoy all of the colors and magic put into it, just like a drug trip. I might make an anime thing here, a furry thing here, or just a weird surreal thing there. I also draw when inspired by a man I find very attractive, and try to draw them as best as I can. I draw Skrillex a lot, and one day I plan to write a journal on why he is so important to me, for now I just love him and love drawing him. The most common theme in my art is just bright colors and/or drug references. Some pieces might represent my painful past, or having to grow up in the wrong body and world.

I used to be angry about never being asked for commissions, and because of that that must mean I’m a shit artist, but it just means my art isn’t made for others. However it makes me very happy when my art is loved and appreciated! Just a like or comment can mean the world to me 🌈
